When you're lacking motivation

This is me, every single day.
"You're not a robot. You can't just conjure up motivation when you don't have it. Sometimes you're going through something. Sometimes life has happened. Life! Remember life? Yeah, it teaches you things and sometimes makes you go the long way around for your biggest lessons." -Jamie Varon

If you're looking to find a way to stay motivated through your final year of college, or maybe even just college in general, we're going to have to take this journey together.

From reading the title of this blog, I'm sure you are questioning the name and how it relates to motivating yourself through college. Well, I'll try to explain. My name is Emily Priscilla Brown and I'm a senior college student at Slippery Rock University. I decided to tie my name into the title as a way to express that I am an example of an unmotivated college student at the current moment in my life. EmPris to me is pronounced empress which honestly just sounded pretty cool in my personal opinion. You don't have to agree with me. So that's my reason for choosing such a random sounding name for a "motivation survival guide on your final year in college."

As I've mentioned above, I'm in my fourth and final year of college. It's gross. I don't like saying that. But of course I'm finding myself constantly complaining and feeling unmotivated, uninspired and uninterested in not only completing my senior year but also in thinking about the future, growing into being an adult, learning how to do things on my own. IT'S SO SCARY. I'm sure anyone who decides to even read this is probably rolling their eyes at me, but I am aware that everyone needs to grow up and be an adult and I should probably stop being a baby about it.

But if you're in college as well, then you probably have a similar idea as to what I'm saying here about being scared and unmotivated. And it's almost as if the fear is causing me to become this lump on a log and the whiny bum that's taking over my typical happy go lucky self. I hate it.

Now this is where this particular blog comes in handy. We're gonna stick together and push ourselves to overcome the simple fear of growing up. Hopefully you stick with me because I think it could be fun for not only myself but for all of those students out there, or maybe even the individuals that find it hard to get out of bed in the morning. I'm hoping for anyone who reads this blog to understand that you're not alone, I'm struggling too.

So to end this post in an even an incredibly cheesy and a "what is wrong with this girl" type manner, I would like to leave behind my favorite quote from my favorite movie because it is pretty motivated and that's the goal here, to be motivated. (Please take a tally as to how many times you've read the word motivated.)
"You got the makings of greatness in you. But you got to take the helm and chart your own course. Stick to it, no matter the squalls! And when the time comes, you get to really test the cut of your sails and show them what you're made of... Well, I hope I'm there, catching some of the light coming off you that day." -John Silver
Now I know, I know, I know. You're probably laughing and calling me crazy. But this to me is something I find motivating. Hearing that you have "the makings of greatness in you" is something you should believe is true. I encourage you to use that phrase on yourself when you're having a rough day or week. It's a good way to push yourself and feel better after going through a rough time.

Alright, I'll end my corniness here. I hope you stick with me and continue to read to find some motivation and encouragement.

Sincerely,
EmPris
